Peter received a special revelation from God that Gentiles were included in the New Covenant when they believed in Jesus and confessed Him as Lord. Yet because he feared the Judaizers he compromised the gospel and withdrew fellowship with the believing Gentiles in Antioch. Peter wanted them to enter bondage and try to keep the Law which neither he nor anyone else could keep. The Law had no power to help Peter overcome sin. And it has no power to help anyone overcome sin. All it can do is point out sin. Remember, the letter was written to a group of Jewish people and our author wanted them to know the truth about Jesus and he wanted them to confess Jesus as their Lord. On this path they try hard to make themselves acceptable to God, and they strive to please God with their efforts. They work very hard and the church encourages their efforts. Some of them, on the inside, feel that they have no hope for a better situation. Then there is the path of trusting God. On this path, Christians are LIVING OUT OF WHO GOD SAYS THEY ARE.
